Sign of the 39th Division: A white square with three light (Eton) blue stripes. Adopted by General Barnadiston.

Raised by Lieut-Colonel H. Webb, MP in December 1914.

3 March - Battalion left Witley, Surrey by train for Southampton. 07.30 sailed for France on the 'Marguerite' and 'Maidan'. Arrived at Le Havre 06.30 the next day.

Reduced to cadre on 6 May 1918.
