HANNAH - Lieutenant William Maitland Julius - Leicestershire Regt.
Killed in action at Dundee. 21st Oct. 1899. Aged 23. Son of Rev. J.J. Hannah, Vicar of Brighton at St Peter’s Church. A chancel pillar on which is carved a stone memorial with the Leicestershire Regiment’s tiger was dedicated to Lt. Hannah.
I.C. Hannah’s book, The Sussex Coast (1912) is dedicated - 'to A Sussex Worthy who rests in a distant land; MY BROTHER who fell fighting that Sussex and South Africa might share a flag; this work is dedicated with affection and with reverence.'

Killed in action 19th Sept. 1901. Aged 23. Son of William Mant Hay-Coghlan (Indian Civil Service) and grandson of General Sir W.W. Coghlan, KCB (Royal Artillery). Born March 1878.

Wounded at Zand River, 10th May 1900. Died next day. Aged 32. Born June 1867. Served Chitral 1895 (medal & bar). Memorial in Royal Garrison Church, Portsmouth - "In loving memory of Leonard Head Captain XXX (East Lancashire) Regiment who died of wounds received in action while serving with the 8th Mounted Infantry at the Zand River S. Africa May 11 1900 aged 32 years."

Killed in a train crash near America Siding. 17th May 1901. Aged 38. Son of Edward Heath, of Manchester. Married in 1887. Commanding No.6 armoured train when killed.

A tablet was placed over his grave - "Erected in grateful remembrance of the devoted care he rendered her husband, by Beatrice Princess Henry of Battenberg."

Wounded near Middleburg, May 9th 1902. Died next day. Aged 26. Son of J. Hinks, of Kenilworth. Born April 1876. Emigrated to South Africa in 1893 and farmed near Hanover, Cape Colony.

Died of enteric at Pretoria. 27th May 1902. Son of Nevil L. Hodgson, of Woolwich. Had previously served in the Cape Police.

Died of enteric at Naauwpoort. 11th May 1900. Aged 21. Son of Rev. J.F. Homan, rector of Chicklade, near Hindon. Born July 1878. Serving with the Cape Railway Pioneer Regiment when he died.
