Born 20th August 1822 in Co. Clare, Ireland. Married Louisa Barnes at Colgong, Bengal, 20th August 1851. Served Sutlej (medal and 2 bars), Lushai 1871 (medal and bar), Jowaki 1877 (bar). His son, Lt-Col. James L. O'Bryen, was killed in action in 1897.
